When it comes to fall there are so many things to love about the season! Bright colored leaves fall from the trees, the warm cackling of a bonfire on a cool night, a comfy sweater that is two sizes too big, and the bubbling of soup on the stove. We look forward to those things every autumn, however, the thing we love the most about the season is the delectable flavors that it brings.
Of course, when this time of year rolls around, it seems like everyone has to make a mad dash to their local coffee shop to get their pumpkin spice latte fix! While are guilty of being a part of this dash (in fact, check our coffee shop blog post with Visit Overland Park HERE) and we admire a steamy PSL, our love for frozen treats runs deep! With that said, we wanted to help you discover the best fall flavored ice cream, custard, and soft serve in Kansas City and bring it to your attention! It’s never too cold for ice cream!
French Custard
French Custard started as pop-ups all over the city. Making delicious ice cream consisting of a base with JUST milk, cream, eggs, sugar! The real deal! They now have a store front located in Brookside. Thy have released a whole line up for fall including blackberry cobbler, apple cider oat crumble, cinnamon churro, cherry chunk, pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin toffee crunch, campfire s’more brownie, pecan praline, and black cherry sorbet!
Unforked
Dinner and dessert? That is one thing that we love about Unforked. Before you dig into their creamy custard enjoy some of our favorites off the menu - The Pure Burger with 24 hour fries, Hale the Kale Salad topped with chicken, or one of their tacos (but really you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu!) When it come times for dessert try the apple pie or pumpkin pie concrete! We opted for the apple and devoured it in 2 minutes flat!
Summersalt Ice Cream Co.
Summersalt Ice Cream Co. has two locations. One is in Corinth Square and the other is in the Ranch Mart Strip. They have ice cream and soft serve (pro tip - ask for a waffle cone!) They have some more innovative flavors for the fall season including fig and goat cheese, pumpkin goat cheese, and cereal killer - just in time for Halloween!
Fairway Creamery
Fairway Creamery is a donut and ice cream combo sho tucked away near the fairway city pool and not far from the Prairie Village Shops. While we are unsure on their seasonal donut offerings, we do know they are serving up some tasteful fall ice cream flavors. I opted for the pumpkin spice soft serve but they are also scooping Biscoff, cinnamon, banana pudding, and carmel apple pecan!
The Golden Scoop
The Golden Scoop is and ice cream and coffee shop tucked away in Overland Park near 103rd and Metcalf. They provide meaningful employment for individuals with developmental disabilities. Be sure to swing by and try their Pumpkin Pie flavor made with real pieces of pumpkin pie. YUM!
